    You see, most things in life are not intuitive. That’s why almost every product you buy has a manual and almost everything you do has a technique or recipe for best results. Why is there not an instruction manual for your brain, which houses your mind, your emotions, and your personality?

    The answer to that is simple, and it’s because only recently have scientists really buckled down and attempted to reverse engineer the inner workings of the brain, the most complex structure in the known universe. In the past 100 years, the human race has discovered more about the brain than all the previous years of human history combined. We are only scratching the surface, but what has been discovered has already revolutionized the way we think about the mind, consciousness, and the soul.

    As an engineer working alongside neurosurgeons and neurologists, I often was present during surgeries where patients would get pacemakers to stimulate specific regions in the brain that were causing them to shake uncontrollably, have trouble moving and speaking, as well as experience a lack of motivation. With a simple regular shock to the brain, patients could relive normal, functional lives and all of the symptoms from Parkinson’s disease, Essential Tremor, or Dystonia would go away. I also found out that these pacemakers could also help patents who suffered from severe clinical depression, OCD, Tourette’s Syndrome, and epilepsy.

    Why could something as simple as electrical shocks be used to treat neurological diseases? Because the brain has specific regions that are dedicated to different functions, from creating motivation, to regulating stress, all the way to simple things like breathing, putting you to sleep, and sighing.

    Through my experience, I not only learned about what can go wrong if the brain doesn’t function properly (hence why people get these kind of surgeries that I just described), but also what can go right when the brain works at its best. Understanding how your brain works can help you improve your focus, your resilience, your motivation, your stress management, memory, learning, self-awareness, happiness, sense of purpose, and connectedness to others and the world. The brain is at the center of everything you do, and this statement has transformed my life. I have seen marked improvements in all cognitive abilities that I just listed and more. Through my research, I have begun to formulate an instruction manual so others can do the same.     First of all I have never read a book that covers so many aspects of what people experience especially in personal development. Mindshift covers so much information around expectations that we create, how we lean and grow, the foundations of how habits are formed, stress, belief systems and motivation.
